Prohibited for a man to make money by exposing his body on webcam

Question

Hi, I would like to earn money, which is difficult, but now I found a way, via online sex cam. Is it haram to earn money from showing our body to others by webcam? If it is haram, please reffer me to a good online job.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ʻalayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

There is no doubt that it is impermissible to expose your ʻawrah (body parts that must be covered) before the camera for those who are prohibited from seeing your ʻawrah to see you as such. The Prophet, sallallaahu ʻalayhi wa sallam, said, "Protect your ʻawrah except from your wife or what your right hand possesses." [Abu Daawood, At-Titmithi and Ibn Maajah]

We have previously underlined the obligation on the Muslim man to cover his ʻAwrah and the extent of his ʻAwrah in Fataawa 84742 and 81982.

There are many permissible means for gaining lawful earnings available for whoever seeks after them. It is not necessary that you do an online job; you can engage in trade or find any other job. Verily, trade is full of blessings for whoever adheres to truthfulness, avoids fraud and deceit, and distances himself from prohibitions. You do not need a big capital in order to engage in trade. It has been narrated that when ʻAbd Ar-Rahmaan ibn ʻAwf may Allaah be pleased with him migrated to Madeenah, he had absolutely no money, like all the other migrants who left behind all their properties, houses, business, and money in Makkah; they sacrificed everything for the sake of Allaah, aspiring to His great rewards. (The Prophet, sallallaahu ʻalayhi wa sallam, established the bond of brotherhood between him and Saʻd ibn Ar-Rabee'.) Saʻd ibn Ar-Rabee' offered ʻAbd Ar-Rahmaan half of his property, but ʻAbd Ar-Rahmaan politely refused and remarked, "May Allaah bless you in your family and property; just guide me to the market (and I can work and support myself)." So he went to the market and engaged in selling and buying, and his business grew bigger and he soon made a fortune of his own. The story is well-known and was cited in Saheeh Al-Bukhari and other books.

So fear Allaah and refrain from seeking to earn through unlawful means and disobedience to Him. You should know that piety and righteousness are the key to relief from all hardships and the path to attaining all that is good; Allaah, The Exalted, says (what means): {And whoever fears Allaah - He will make for him a way out and will provide for him from where he does not expect...} [Quran 65:2-3]

Allaah knows best.
