Woman provides services to insurance company staff

Question

Aselamu Alejkum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,I have a question and hope to get an authentic answer. May Allah reward you.My mother maintains the service for a Service company. Her work consists of serving cookies, non alcoholic drinks, meals that don't consist of pigmeat and so on. She is under the contract of a service company but she does the service for an insurance company in a non-muslim country. She has nothing to do with riba, loans, signing or witnessing insurance contracts, preparing documents for riba transactions, taking customer calls and the like.Is her earning halal? Please note that she is not very educated and it is very hard for her to find another job. Also, her earning is transmitted to a riba-free bank account on which she doesn't give or take riba (she called the bank to check if the bank gives riba on her money).May Allah bless you all and may we meet safe in the hereafter.~ Walejkum Selam Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Your mother's income is lawful as it is in return for a permissible service as you mentioned, and the fact that this service is provided to the staff of an insurance company does not affect its permissibility.

However, there is a problem with her presence – if her work requires her so – in a place where those contracts which you referred to in your question are concluded without expressing her disapproval of wrongs. In any case, if she is in need of work, then it is better for her to work in a place where she does not witness evil and forbidden contracts.

Finally, your mother must observe the Islamic regulations during work, such as wearing the Hijab, avoiding forbidden mixing with men, and so forth. For more benefit, please refer to Fatwa 82399.

Allaah Knows best.
