Assalaamu alaykum. I woud like to check whether it is permissible for muslims to work at Reuters, Bloomberg, Dow Jones, Telerate, ... of which the main business consists of providing systems and information for stock trading.

Accepted Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

Working in those networks is permissible in principle, but as for the fields that contribute to religiously forbidden contracts and deals, such as shares of usurious banks and commercial insurance companies as well as gambling institutions and so on, then working in those is not permissible.

The evidence is the general indication of the verse (which means): {…but do not cooperate in sin and aggression. And fear Allaah; indeed, Allaah is severe in penalty.} [Quran 5:2]
