The permissibility of working as a bodyguard without humiliation

Question:

it is allowed for a muslim to work as a bodyguard?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

In principle, it is permissible for a Muslim to work as a bodyguard as long as this profession does not necessitate committing an Islamic prohibition.

It should be noted that the scholars held that it is forbidden for a Muslim to work as a hired person – whether a bodyguard or anything else – for a non-Muslim if it involves humiliation of the Muslim. Allaah says (what means): {…and never will Allaah give the disbelievers over the believers a way [to overcome them].} [Quran 4:141]

Moreover, Huthayfah may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “A Muslim should not humiliate himself.” [Ahmad, At-Tirmithi and Ibn Maajah]
