Question
I am working with an international NGO here in Afghanistan, many religious people do not like as the earning money through this way, is not Halaal as the fund is given to the NGO by USA.
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
If the organization you are asking about helps the needy and does not have forbidden activities like calling to polytheism, or glorifying non-Muslims and polytheists, or being an ally to them, then we do not see any harm in working with this organization and being paid for your work. Being sponsored by that country or other countries is not an obstacle as long as this organization carries out charitable activities and does not call to polytheism or call to their people. However, if its activities are forbidden like helping a non-Muslim, or advocating for him and the like then it is not permissible to work for it.
